Energy Efficiency Tax Credits
Energy efficiency tax credits for up to 30% of the cost of your purchase are available for a number of products and renewable energy systems.

Tax Credit #1: 30% of cost up to $1,500 Expires December 31, 2010 Note: Must be an existing home & your principal residence.
Windows, Doors, Skylights with U factor <0.3 and SHGC <0.3 Tax credit does not cover installation costs.
Storm Windows and Doors with U factor <0.3 and SHGC <0.3 Note: Tax credit does not cover installation costs.
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Advanced Main Air Circulation Fan Note: Uses no more than 2% of furnace's total energy. Energy efficiency tax credits covers installation costs.
Air Source Heat Pumps
Split Systems: HSPF >8.5 EER >12.5 SEER >15 Package systems: HSPF >8 EER >12 SEER >14
Tax Credit covers installation costs.
Central Air Conditioning Split Systems: SEER >16 EER >13 Package systems: SEER >14 EER >12 Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Gas, Propane, or Oil Hot Water Boiler AFUE >90 Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Natural Gas or Propane Furnace AFUE >95 Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Oil Furnace AFUE >90 Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Water Heaters
Gas, Oil, Propane Water Heater Energy Factor >0.82 OR a thermal efficiency of at least 90%. Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Electric Heat Pump Water Heater Energy Factor > 2.0 Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Insulation Meets International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) Standards for 2009 Tax Credit does NOT include installation costs.
Biomass Stoves Thermal efficiency rating of at least 75% as measured using a lower heating value. Tax Credit includes installation costs
Roofs - Metal or Asphalt ENERGY STAR rated metal roofs with pigmented coatings or ENERGY STAR rated asphalt roofs with cooling granules. Tax Credit does NOT include installation costs.
Tax Credit #2 30% of costs with NO UPPER LIMIT Expires December 31, 2016 Note: Existing homes and new construction homes qualify.Principal residences and second homes qualify. Rentals do not qualify.
Solar Water Heaters A minimum of 50% of the energy generated by your home must come from the sun to enable you to qualify for solar water heater Tax Credit (see Solar Panels below). The system must be certified by the Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC).
The credit is not available for swimming pools or hot tubs and the water must be used in your home.

Solar Panels Photovoltaic systems must provide electricity for your home and must meet applicable fire and electrical code requirement.
Geothermal Heat Pumps
Closed Loop: EER >14.1 COP >3.3 Open Loop: EER >16.2 COP >3.6 Direct Expansion: EER >15 COP >3.5

Residential Wind Turbine Requirements Must have a nameplate capacity of no more than 100 kilowatts. Tax Credit includes installation costs.
Tax Credit #3 30% of the cost, up to $500 per 0.5 kW of power capacity Expires December 31, 2016 Note: Existing homes and new construction homes qualify.Must be your principal residence. Rentals do not qualify.
Residential Fuel Cell and Microturbine System Efficiency of at least 30% and must have a capacity of at least 0.5 kW. Tax Credit includes installation costs.
How to apply for your energy efficiency tax credits: Submit Form 5695 with your taxes.
Save your receipts and the Manufacturer's Certification Statement (a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the product or component qualifies for the tax credit) for your records.
